Women in need – Newcastle and Sunderland
Colleagues in Birtley are constantly pushing themselves physically and mentally for charitable causes that are close to their hearts.
Firstly, Gabby Fairweather, internal account manager, and Saniea Ahmed, transport planner, both working in the Materials North and Scotland business decided to raise funds for Women in Need.
Last year the pair were members of the Employee Development Programme group who focused on inclusion and diversity (I&D). As a result, they have been progressing I&D initiatives at their offices in Birtley.
In order to raise money and awareness for Women in Need – Newcastle and Sunderland, they planned a ‘bake a cake’ coffee morning for colleagues at Birtley which well-received by those who attended.
More recently five colleagues (Jill Shield, Kate Raffell, Vicky Parish, Natalie Hurson and Gabby Fairweather) from Birtley came together to run a local 10km race. Thanks to these events over £500 has been donated so far.
Gabby commented: “We have thoroughly enjoyed raising awareness for this fantastic cause. It has also been a great tool to talk more about the I & D agenda in our offices and open up conversations on the subject.”
